Asheville police responded to a call around 3:40 a.m. about a stabbing. They found a victim suffering from life-threatening injuries out front of an apartment. The victim, who has not been identified, was taken to a hospital and is in critical condition, officials said.

He was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and inflict serious injury. Lory asked for a hospital evaluation, WLOS reported.

Police found Donald Eugene Lory Jr. had barricaded himself inside an apartment unit. After five hours of negotiations, Lory, 54, surrendered without further incident.

A woman who was also inside, Julia Crystal Cavaliere, 41, was arrested and charged with resist, delay, and obstruction, police said.
