Two college students have been struck and killed by trains in the span of four days, Alabama authorities have confirmed.
An Auburn University student died early Wednesday after being struck by a westbound CSX train near the tracks in the 300 block of Bragg Avenue, Lee County coroner Bill Harris told AL.com.
Harris identified the victim as Paul Warren Claborn, 21, of Guntersville, Alabama.
According to WRBL, emergency responders administered first aid to Claborn at the scene, but his injuries were severe enough to warrant being airlifted to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital, where he later died.
Harris said the incident remains under investigation by the Auburn Police Department and his office.
Meanwhile, Violent Crimes Unit Capt. Jack Kennedy told AL.com that officers with the Tuscaloosa Police Department responded at 9:30 p.m. Saturday to the railroad track in the area of the 1200 block of East McFarland Boulevard.
The victim, a University of Alabama student whose name is not being released, appears to have been alone at the time of the incident and was pronounced dead at the scene, Kennedy added.
“The University community is saddened by the unexpected death of a UA student. Out of respect for the student, the University is not releasing any details,” Deidre Stalnaker, the university’s director of communications, stated in a news release issued Monday.
