2 injured when plane crashes in central Alabama

BLOUNT COUNTY, Ala. — Two people were injured Saturday when a small plane crashed in central Alabama, authorities said.

The two-passenger plane crashed just north of the runway at the Oneonta Municipal Airport at Robbins Field, the City of Oneonta said in a social media post.

Oneonta is located northeast of Birmingham.

Oneonta Fire and Rescue, Oneonta Police, Blount EMS, Blount County Sheriff’s Office and Blount EMA all responded to the scene after the plane went down at about 8:17 a.m. CDT, WIAT-TV reported.

Upon arrival, authorities found a two-passenger “hobby” aircraft, according to the television station.

One passenger was taken to a hospital in Birmingham by an air ambulance and the other passenger was taken by ground to an area hospital, WBRC-TV reported.

Federal Aviation Administration officials are on the scene investigating the cause of the crash, according to the television station.
