Driver injured during pursuit after jumping from truck when police locked him inside using OnStar system

POCAHONTAS COUNTY, Iowa — A driver injured his leg during a pursuit with police Monday after authorities used the vehicle’s OnStar system to lock him inside, when he panicked and jumped out of the window of the still-moving truck.

Police said they were able to track a stolen Chevy Truck using its global positioning system, KTIV reported. Investigators said the driver, Jordan Walbaum, 32, refused to stop. Police said that during the chase, Walbaum threw methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia out the window of the truck.

When Walbaum drove down an alley, police were able to lock him inside the truck using the vehicle’s OnStar system. Walbaum panicked and then jumped out of a window of the moving vehicle and his legs were run over, police said.

Walbaum still tried to flee on foot but was taken into custody shortly later. He was taken to a hospital for treatment. Charges are pending. An arrest warrant for a prior incident had already been issued, KTIV reported.

The truck, which was still in drive, hit two more vehicles before it crashed into a garage causing extensive damage, police said.
