Endangered black rhino calf born at Cincinnati Zoo

CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Zoo welcomed an endangered newborn black rhino to its animal kingdom Friday.

The calf is the second for mother Seyia and father Faru, the zoo said on Saturday. Seyia was pregnant with the calf for 16 months.

“The long gestation period for this critically endangered species makes it difficult to grow the population,” the zoo said on social media. “Mom and baby are doing well and are bonding behind the scenes.”

A name for the calf has not yet been released.
