“You never know what the day is going to hold when you show up for your shift as a firefighter,” officials with the City of Dalton Fire Department said Wednesday in a social media post. “Sure, there may be the occasional cat needing to be rescued from a tree, but a raccoon? That’s a new one.”

Authorities were called to a home near Dalton High School on Monday night after the raccoon was found inside. Firefighters were able to catch him and safely release him back into the wild, but not before snapping a photo of the critter.

“As you can tell, he was pretty embarrassed about it, but it’s really nothing to be ashamed of,” firefighters said. “We all need a helping hand every now and then.”

Officials added that they hoped he would be “less adventurous in his search for snacks from now on.”
