HORACE, N.D. — A chocolate Labrador was rescued after it somehow became stuck on a chunk of ice in the middle of a North Dakota river.
A woman walking near the Sheyanne River noticed Lola, a chocolate Labrador, stranded on the ice about 30 feet from shore and called 911, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office said.
Two volunteer firefighters donned water suits and ventured into the frigid water to retrieve Lola, KFGO reported. About 20 minutes later, Lola was safely on shore. She warmed up in a deputy’s patrol vehicle while they worked to reunite her with her owner.
“(The caller) was fortunately in the right place at the right time,” investigators said.
“The owner was quite grateful. The dog seemed to be happy to be back with its owner as well,” deputy Craig Keller told KVRR. “Obviously we do have the ordinances in Cass County as far as leash laws and animals running wild so we talked (to) the owner about that and made sure he’s aware of those.”
