NAPLES, Fla. — Donating is second nature to Diane Meyer.
The Florida woman met a personal goal Tuesday, donating blood for the 300th time at an area hospital, the Naples Daily News reported.
Meyer, 69 wore a red shirt as she sat down at the Community Blood Center at NCH North Naples Hospital, the newspaper reported.
“I am proud of it because if I gave 300 blood products I made a difference in 300 people’s lives,” Meyer told the newspaper. “It’s a goal, it’s not a big deal to somebody else but it is for me.”
Meyer has been donating platelets every other week since 2013, using the two hours it takes to read a book, the Daily News reported.
Staff members at the blood center presented Meyer with balloons and a framed tribute poem.
“Your time is precious and your blood is precious,” Laura Rosen, the blood center’s community relations manager, told the Daily News.
“It’s a very special day,” Kathy Moore, a registered nurse and 20-year blood center employee, told the newspaper. “It’s awesome.”
Meyer now is setting another goal.
“If I can donate another 10 years, I might make 500,” Meyer told the Daily News. “As long as I am healthy, I see no reason not to.”
