ORLANDO, Fla. — A Central Florida woman was killed by a car Saturday morning after she stopped to check on a deer that had been struck by another vehicle, authorities said.
Orange County Sheriff’s deputies said the crash occurred on a three-lane road near the University of Central Florida at about 2:25 a.m. EST, WFTV reported.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 20-year-old woman, who has not been identified, stopped her vehicle in the center lane and activated her hazard lights, the television station reported. The woman got out of her vehicle to check on the deer, which was lying in the road, the FHP said.
Deputies said the driver of a 2013 Hyundai Sonata, who was traveling northbound on the highway, did not see the woman and struck her with the front of the vehicle, WFTV reported.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, according to The Associated Press.
FHP Lt. Kim Montes said the victim was from the Orlando suburb Casselberry, while the 23-year-old driver of the Sonata was a woman from Spring Hill.
The crash remains under investigation.
