Officials: 1 officer killed, 2 others injured in shooting in Minnesota; suspect shot, killed

CYRUS, Minn. — A deputy was shot and killed Saturday night during a domestic call in Cyrus, Minnesota. Two other officers were also injured.

In a news release, the Pope County Sheriff’s Office said that just before 7:30 p.m., deputies along with officers from the Glenwood and Starbuck police departments were called for a domestic situation.

As officers tried to make an arrest, officers and a man reportedly exchanged gunfire at the house. An officer with the Starbuck Police Department and two deputies were struck, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Starbuck officer was injured but was not admitted to the hospital. One of the deputies was treated and has since been released from the hospital. The other deputy was taken to the hospital in critical condition but died from his injuries, the sheriff’s office confirmed.

Officials said a man was also shot and killed during the incident, according to KARE. His name has not been released.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension will be conducting the investigation per a request from the sheriff’s office, the news outlet reported.
