PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh man is facing a host of charges after police said he spiked a co-worker’s drink with heavy-duty degreaser.
The suspected poisoning attempt occurred at Redbeard’s Sports Bar, and a manager reported the possible poisoning to police, providing surveillance video of the incident, WPXI-TV reported.
According to the TV station, Gregory Evans is facing criminal attempted homicide, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and various aggravated assault charges.
According to the complaint, the victim told police that he left his strawberry tea unattended at his workstation and noticed it smelled and tasted differently when he returned, WPXI reported.
The victim then told the manager he thought an unknown substance had been placed in his drink, which he spit out upon tasting before dumping the remainder of the beverage down a drain. He also asked the manager to review security video, the TV station reported.
According to the complaint, the drink, of which he only ingested a small portion, left the victim’s lips burning.
The manager told police that he reviewed the video and saw another employee, identified as Evans, pouring heavy-duty degreaser into a cup and then dumping the liquid from that cup into the victim’s drink, WPXI reported.
