Texas man accused of stealing diamond engagement ring during OfferUp meeting

SAN ANTONIO — A Texas man is accused of stealing a diamond engagement ring from a woman, ripping it from her hand during a botched OfferUp meeting, authorities said.

Ryan Alexander, 21, was arrested on a theft charge Thursday, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. He posted bail of $7,500 on Friday, according to jail records.

According to San Antonio police, on May 31, Alexander agreed to buy the ring for $250 after contacting the woman on OffeUup, an online marketplace.

Alexander and the woman agreed to meet in the parking lot of a Walmart in San Antonio, KSAT reported.

Police said Alexander approached the woman’s car on foot as she waited inside the vehicle, the television station reported. According to an arrest affidavit, Alexander allegedly leaned “his whole body” into the window and asked if he could hold the ring.

When the woman said he could hold the item if she could hold the money, Alexander allegedly ripped the ring off her finger and fled, KSAT reported.

The woman was not injured, the television station reported.

According to the arrest affidavit, the ring was valued at $1,500.
