CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — Classes resumed Monday at Bunker Hill High School for since two students died in a car crash.

Kevin Robinson considered Alec Sigmon and Justin Turner two of his best friends. He returned to Bunker Hill High School without them.

"I know they're watching over me every day right now. I know they're with me right here," he said.

Throughout the day, students arrived at a memorial site outside the high school. Over the weekend, classmates had spray-painted a rock with the words "rest in peace Alec and Justin." Students laid flowers and balloons.

Sigmon and Turner were 10th graders at Bunker Hill High.

Sigmon's sister, Jessica Sigmon, and Chloe Cordell, were also passengers.

Troopers said Jacob Turner, a recent graduate, was driving fast on River Bend Road when he lost control and flipped.

Troopers returned to the crash site to reconstruct what happened. They do not believe alcohol was a factor, but said charges are likely. They also said Sigmon and Turner were not wearing seat belts.

For friends, they're choosing to instead focus on the happy times.

"I can't remember anything bad about them, so it's easy to remember the good things. That's what's helping me get through it," said Cooper Ray.

Students spent the day writing notes to the teens and decorating their lockers. Grief counselors were also there.

"We just want our kids to be honored and the ones that are here- we want them to know they're safe and loved," said Bunker Hill High School principal Jeff Isenhour.

Cordell remains in critical condition but Isenhour said doctors are cautiously optimistic.

Sigmon and Turner will be buried Tuesday -- another difficult day.

"I think everybody has come together as one. That's how we'll get through this," Robinson said.

The school will provide buses to bring students and staff back and forth from the funerals.

Grief counselors will also remain at the school for the next several days.
