KENNEWICK, Wash. — A Washington bus driver has gained a lot of attention after showing compassion for a cold student.
According to the Kennewick School District in Washington, bus driver John Lunceford noticed a student crying when he picked him up at a bus stop Thursday morning. The boy's hands and ears had turned red from the cold.
Lunceford, a U.S. Army veteran, has been driving buses for the Kennewick School District for three years.
Lunceford did what he could to help.
"I put my gloves on him and told him, 'It'll be OK, it'll be OK," said Lunceford.
After dropping the children off at school, Lunceford went to a nearby store and bought 10 hats and 10 pairs of gloves in black and pink. He went back to the school, tracked down the student and handed him a pair of gloves and a hat.
"I'm a grandfather, you know," Lunceford said. "No one wants a kid to suffer like that."
Lunceford is now handing out the hats and gloves to children who don't have any.
