Woman Accused Of Killing Friend Faints In Court

GASTONIA, N.C.,None — A Gastonia woman fainted Tuesday in court as a judge denied her bail, after she was accused of shooting her friend, according to the Gaston Gazette.

Gastonia Police said Venisha Bajja, 30, is charged with murder after she allegedly shot a friend from Kannapolis who was visiting her home.

Cambria Cannon, 30, died after being shot in the left side during a fight between the two women, police said.

"I feel it should be lowered. I'm not a murderer. That's monstrous. It was an accident," Bajja told District Court Judge James Jackson.

Jackson denied her bail, and Bajja dropped to the floor for about 15 minutes. A nurse came into the court to tend to Bajja, who was later put in a wheelchair and taken to her cell.

Police originally charged Bajja with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, but upgraded that charge to murder after Cannon died from her injures around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday

According to the suspect's mother, the two women were good friends, and she said they were getting along well Monday afternoon.
