CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Expect no changes to our weather pattern for Election Day on Tuesday, as temperatures will soar above average under sunny, dry conditions in the Carolinas.
Comparing the historical numbers, dry presidential election days aren’t that uncommon.
Charlotte weather records date back to 1878, and in the last 34 presidential elections:
- Only 11 days have recorded rain.
- Highest election daily rainfall total was in 1972, with 1.22 inches of rain.
- Election days in the Charlotte area have totaled 2.95 inches of rain.
- Only one election year has recorded temperatures below freezing – 27 degrees in 1960.
- Snow has never been reported in Charlotte
- The average temperature for the last 34 election days in Charlotte is 65.1 degrees
- The warmest election day was in 2004, when highs hit 77 degrees.
This Election Day’s forecast will stay right in the middle, with a forecast high of 71 degrees.
