FORECAST:

  • We’re dealing with dense fog this Sunday morning and a dense fog advisory has been issued until 11 am for most of the area.
  • An isolated shower is possible today, otherwise it’s still mild with highs for Charlotte in the mid-50s.
  • The mountains will see temperatures fall through the day as this Arctic front passes through, with snow picking up late morning and continuing through early tomorrow.
  • Here’s the latest winter weather alerts:
  • Winter Storm Warning: Watauga and Avery counties through 7am Monday
  • Winter Weather Advisory: Ashe County until 7am Monday
  • Extreme Cold Warning: Ashe, Avery, Watauga counties Monday from 4am to noon
  • Multiple inches of snow will cause tough travel conditions in the mountains today and tomorrow. Wind chill values will be as low as -20 degrees early tomorrow.
  • For Charlotte, still looking at bitterly cold conditions starting tomorrow morning and continuing through the rest of the week. As Joe mentioned, these could lead to burst pipes or sporadic power outages.
  • A winter storm is still trending to our south late Tuesday into Wednesday. Biggest impacts will be for the SC Midlands and towards the coast.
