FORECAST:

  • Today is the day we get a reminder that winter is not done just yet. Temperatures will struggle to stay near 40 degrees as scattered light showers move in throughout the day.
  • In the mountains, it’s cold enough to produce freezing rain which picks up this afternoon through the evening.
  • An Ice Storm Warning is in place for Avery County and the mountains of Burke County where more than a quarter inch of ice is possible. Very low risk for any icing east of the mountains even though there is a Winter Weather Advisory there.
  • More rain spreads into the metro tonight, with more moderate rains likely.
  • Heavier downpours likely come our way by Thursday morning before we get into a break for Valentine’s Day Friday.
  • The next storm system for the weekend is likely going to bring another round of heavy rain into Sunday morning. This may lead to flooding concerns for the high country.
