LENOIR, N.C. — A man is facing a felony charge after a deadly shooting in Caldwell County early Monday morning.

The suspect, Joshua Lovins, was arrested and charged with felony murder after investigators say he shot Michael Watson in the chest.

It happened at a home along Honeycomb Place in Gamewell shortly after 2 a.m., deputies said.

Lovins met Watson and his friend after they ran out of gas in Lenoir. Investigators say all three men ended up at Watson’s camper where the violence broke out.

Watson died just outside the camper after the shooting. Investigators learned that his friend, who was also inside the camper at the time, wrestled the gun away from Lovins.

Channel 9’s Dave Faherty was there when Lovins was charged and could clearly see injuries to the suspect at the time of his arrest.

When Faherty questioned Lovins about the case, he denied any involvement.

Deputies said they recovered surveillance video from a nearby home that shows Lovins leaving the camper. They say he only got about a quarter of a mile away from the camper before he was taken into custody.
