STATESVILLE, N.C. — A 13-year-old has been hospitalized following a shooting Tuesday night, according to the Statesville Police Department.
At approximately 9:45 p.m., police responded to a call regarding a person being shot on the 600 block of Crescent Lane.
At the scene, police found a 13-year-old juvenile suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
The victim was then taken to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for treatment, according to police.

Family members told Channel 9 that a 16-year-old knocked at the front door and asked for some water.
They said he then went into the home and shot the 13-year-old, who was sitting on a couch, before running out of the back door and jumping a fence.
That 16-year-old was later arrested and charged with attempted murder, according to police.
The victim’s grandmother expressed exhaustion regarding the violence, saying, “This has got to stop. This gang-banging, or whatever, has got to stop. It’s hurting the kids, and it’s hurting the mommas too.”

Police said the investigation into this incident is active and ongoing.
