CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Hundreds of walkers packed uptown Charlotte Saturday morning to promote kidney health awareness.

The National Kidney Foundation organized the ninth annual kidney walk.

The event aims to promote awareness in the prevention and treatment of kidney disease.

This year’s walk raised more than $110,000 for the organization.

“There's over 30 million Americans who have kidney disease and over 90 percent of them don't know it,” said Rob Hayden with the National Kidney Foundation for North Carolina. “So we're trying to raise awareness, trying to reach people early.”

Walkers were also able to get a free kidney screening after the walk.
