CHARLOTTE, N.C. — For more than three dozen of Charlotte’s up-and-coming young professionals, Thursday night presented a prime time to shine. Capping off its signature 40 Under 40 awards program with flair, the Charlotte Business Journal played host to a talent show as part of a celebratory event in honor of the 2018 winners.

Held at the historic McGlohon Theatre at Spirit Square in uptown, the evening’s talent repertoire included honorees showcasing their culinary skills, such as the Charlotte Area Transit System’s Muthuraman Annamalai cooking up South Indian fried rice on video or Kimley-Horn and Associates Inc.’s Jessica Rossi shaking up an espresso martini on stage. There was also dancing, dad jokes, instrument playing, doodling and some beer chugging.

Later in the evening, honorees and guests gathered for a celebratory reception where drinks and hors d’oeuvres were served.

Now in its 25th year, CBJ’s 40 Under 40 program recognizes 40 individuals under the age of 40 who are making major strides in their careers while also leaving a positive impact on their communities. Honorees are not only the movers-and-shakers in their careers, but they are also deeply involved in the community and juggle those responsibilities with family obligations, hobbies and social lives.
