CHARLOTTE — American Airlines and its mechanics union have reached an agreement after years of tense talks and court battles.
The decision affects about 30,000 employees.

American Airlines accused its mechanics of working slower to influence contract negotiations.

The mechanics worried the airline could move jobs from places like the Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
American Airlines and the mechanics union reached the "agreement in principle" worth $4.2 billion.
The agreement still needs to be approved.
