Charlotte City Council to vote on citywide street vending restrictions

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte City Council could soon tighten restrictions on street vending, with a proposal that would ban vendors from operating citywide unless they have a permit for a preauthorized area.

City leaders are scheduled to vote Monday on the proposed changes.

The plan would also establish a criminal penalty for vendors who commit a third violation within 30 days for selling items other than food.

Currently, street vending is prohibited only in NoDa and in Uptown without prior authorization from Center City Partners.

If approved, the new rules would expand restrictions to the rest of Charlotte.
