Charlotte man charged after deputies seize 150 pounds of marijuana during traffic stop

A Charlotte man is facing multiple drug trafficking charges after Iredell County deputies said they found more than 150 pounds of marijuana products during a traffic stop in northern Iredell County, the Statesville Record & Landmark reported.

Clarence Edgar Winslow, 44, was charged with felony trafficking level II by transport, felony trafficking level II by possession, felony possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, felony possession of a Schedule I controlled substance (ecstasy), felony carrying a concealed gun, felony possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance (marijuana wax), misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia, according to Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell.

The sheriff’s office said Lt. Chase Little stopped a vehicle on Harmony Highway on Sept. 16 while patrolling northern Iredell County. Winslow was identified as the driver.

According to Campbell, Little observed signs of possible drug activity and impairment during the stop.

Little and Deputy Tyler Pass searched the vehicle and found boxes containing about 150 pounds of marijuana and 2.74 pounds of marijuana wax, the newspaper reported. Authorities said the marijuana products have an estimated street value of $225,000.

Deputies also seized a loaded handgun found in a backpack, multiple ecstasy pills, an open container of alcohol, vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and $5,000 in cash, Campbell said.
