CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Dozens of supporters made their way on Thursday morning to the Mecklenburg County Board of Elections to watch Mayor Jennifer Roberts officially file to keep her seat as Charlotte’s mayor.
Roberts is running to seek re-election for a second term.
“Mayor Jennifer Roberts is focused on creating jobs, delivering on expanding programs for our youth and fighting for our values,” said Roberts campaign manager Sam Spencer. "With Charlotte-Mecklenburg creating over 15,000 jobs over the past 18 months, a consensus city budget that added new police officers and support staff, and Roberts' record of success growing programs like the Mayor's Youth Employment Program and Charlotte Next, she has a strong record of accomplishment for Charlotte that will earn her reelection in November."
Roberts joins Councilwoman Vi Lyles, who filed on Monday, state Sen. Joel Ford and Constance Partee Johnson on the Democratic ticket.
