CHARLOTTE — A group of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools parents is pushing for changes to how much technology students use in the classroom.
The Charlotte Observer reports parents have launched a local chapter of “Schools Beyond Screens” and created a list of six changes they want CMS leaders to consider before the new school year.
Among their requests is blocking YouTube in schools and eliminating technology use for students in kindergarten through second grade.
Some parents are also calling for more play-based learning in elementary classrooms, according to the Charlotte Observer.
They want CMS to test one hour of play time each day in select kindergarten classrooms.
The group has launched an online petition supporting the proposal. More than 1,500 people have signed it.
