CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An east Charlotte church will hold a community town hall Friday in response to an increase in homicides in the city.
"Faith Soldiers Word Ministries" said that the town hall will feature residents, law enforcement and city leaders.
The Queen City has seen 22 homicides so far in 2017 – more than double the amount during the same span last year.
The pastor told Channel 9 that the event begins at 7 p.m. at the church on Eastway Drive.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney said there's no simple reason behind the rise in homicides, and that eight of the 22 murders began as minor conflicts that eventually escalated.
