CHARLOTTE, N.C. — New technology designed to prevent mass shootings is under testing.

The program uses hidden sensors that could prevent a shooting, before the gunman even pulls out their weapon.

The Pat Scan system is being tested on the floor of a Las Vegas casino and uses video and microwaves to identify guns, knives and explosives.
The system can tell the difference between weapons and everyday items and detect longer rifles and shotguns typically used in mass shooting attacks.

It doesn't use metal detectors, arches or wand searches like the ones used in airports to ensure suspects don't know they're being scanned.
The company said some of the devices will be ready to install in the next few months.
