CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A decision made by the Charlotte City Council on Monday night means citizens will know less about how their tax dollars are spent.

Previously, the city manager could only approve contracts costing less than $100,000 without the council’s approval.
Council members Braxton Winston and Lawana Mayfield voted against the change because they wanted more transparency and oversight.
The council voted to raise that threshold to $500,000.
City officials say a big reason for this push is that approval by council adds four to six weeks to the process per item, but some still have concerns.
