In May, Norfolk Southern told Channel 9 repairs would start in the coming weeks, but it has been months.
NCDOT said the delay was due to discussions surrounding the type of crossing repair, what time of day to do the work, and cost sharing.
Work is scheduled to take place at night between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.
The work was initially going to begin last Wednesday, but was delayed due to weather.
