WASHINGTON, D.C. — Republicans and Democrats responded to a video showing former Gov. Pat McCrory on the streets of Washington, where people yelled "Shame" because he signed House Bill 2.

Protesters spotted the former governor Friday on the streets of Washington headed for an interview with Fox News.

They started to taunt him on the street for leading the charge for HB2, the law that requires people to use the bathroom that matches their gender at birth.

The protesters followed McCrory down an alley.

"Shame, shame, shame," the crowd continued to chant.

City police made the crowd leave.

"That's tough," former Gaston County Commissioner Donnie Loftis, a Republican, said.

He said the law is forever linked to McCrory

"From now on he will probably be known as the HB2 governor," he said.

But he said the treatment from protesters was over the top.

"I thought it was just harassment," Loftis said. "I was very disappointed that the tolerant left moved to that level."

"I understand your outrage," HB2 opponent Karen Webster Turner said, but she said she can't defend the protesters’ actions.

"What is that going to accomplish? Nothing," she said. "I just think our energy is better spent working with our new governor to fix the things that Pat McCrory broke, rather than chasing him down when he has no power to fix it now."
