CHARLOTTE — A witness started filming a video on his cellphone after he saw dirt bike drivers doing stunts Wednesday on Wilkinson Boulevard.

The video also showed a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officer trying to pull over the daredevils.

"I did see them on Wednesday, and I did see them before that,” said Tariq Kahn, who works along the boulevard.

Riders taking to the streets in Charlotte and creating a ruckus have been a problem that has been escalating over the past few years.

In 2019, hundreds of stunt riders invaded the city during NBA All-Star Game weekend.

A police report from Wednesday’s incident said an officer spotted a "suspect violating traffic laws" on Statesville Avenue.

Other drivers also witnessed the spectacle.

CMPD ended up abandoning the search for the riders.

CMPD’s Aviation Unit tracks the reckless ATVs and dirt bikes, but officials said it’s a difficult task because the riders can slip away.
