CHARLOTTE — Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are investigating a homicide Friday morning at a hotel in southwest Charlotte.

Tiara Love Tori Jackson, 37, was shot to death at the Woodspring Suites along Deboer Avenue off West Arrowood Road and happened at about 9:20 a.m.

Channel 9 got to the scene where there was crime scene tape blocking the entrance and wrapped around some of the parking lot.

Police said there was a disturbance or dispute on one of the floors of the hotel before the shooting.

One of the dozens of people staying at the hotel spoke with Channel 9’s Tina Terry.

“When I came back (from the store), I seen the guy coming out the door,” said the witness, who did not want to be identified. “He had a purse. He tripped and had fell into the rocks like real hard and money flew everywhere.”

The money was covered in blood, and the witness saw drugs in the bag. He knew something was not right.

“I was, like, something wrong. Somebody got robbed or killed,” he said.

Terry spoke with a couple who planned to stay at the hotel Friday said they’re making new arrangements.

“Absolutely scary,” said customer Tim Fields. “The times we live in these days.”

Friday evening, CMPD announced that Darris Dee Marshall, 33, has been identified as the suspect in this case.

According to police, shortly after the shooting took place, Marshall was found in a different location with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

He was taken to an area hospital for treatment and ultimately charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
