CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — An elderly woman was killed in a crash Friday afternoon in Catawba County, officials said.
The three-vehicle wreck happened at about 2 p.m. on Highway 127 South near 89-year-old Betty Shook’s home.
According to Highway Patrol, Shook was driving south on Highway 127. She stopped while waiting for traffic to clear so she could turn left into a private driveway.
Michael Isenhour, 33, was driving a van in the same direction. Isenhour failed to slow down and tried to swerve, but rear-ended Shook’s car, troopers said. Her car was forced across the center line and collided with a pickup truck heading in the opposite direction.

Troopers said Shook died from her injuries at the scene. Isenhour was not hurt, and the driver of the pickup truck was taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay.
Isenhour has been charged with failing to reduce speed and misdemeanor death by vehicle, troopers said.
Highway 127 in the Mountainview community was shut down for over two hours while authorities cleared the scene.
