CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A company that tracks unwanted phone calls said there were 5 billion of them last month, which equals about 2,000 robocalls per second.

Federal lawmakers are thinking of fining the callers $10,000 for each robocall.
They would expect phone companies to develop new technology to identify unwanted calls before they get to you.
The FCC asked those companies to come up with a plan to do that, and most of those carriers plan to respond to the federal agency on Monday.
