HICKORY, N.C. — A former Hickory police officer was arrested Monday on a federal felony indictment stemming from a 2013 incident in which a handcuffed woman was injured.
Robert Michael George, 45, is charged with assault.
In November 2013, George was accused of using excessive force while taking Chelsea Doolittle into custody for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
A booking photo showed Doolittle with injuries to her face.

George was indicted in 2014 by the Catawba County District Attorney’s Office on state felony charges of assault inflicting serious injury, but the case never came to trial after George’s defense requested multiple continuances.
County prosecutors then worked with federal prosecutors to move the case to federal court.
