FORT MILL, S.C. — Channel 9 was there to witness a sweet surprise for the family of a 7-year-old boy with a form of muscular dystrophy.

John Jackson Blanks is from Fort Mill. He can’t walk, stand up, or even lift light objects, which is why he has to use a 300-pound wheelchair to get around.

The family showed up Thursday thinking they were going to conduct interviews to ramp up exposure for their fundraising for the van.

It’s not easy for the boy’s family to get his wheelchair in and out of the car, so the nonprofit “All Things Possible” raised money to get them a wheelchair-accessible van.

“With this van, he can just get in the chair, roll in there,” said John’s mother, Anna Blanks. “Just strap him in, get to school and he can just roll out.”

They didn’t know it was already paid for.
