MOORESVILLE, N.C. — The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office says four people were shot at a Halloween party in Mooresville early Sunday morning.
Deputies say that anywhere from 200-500 people were at the party and when the shooting started everyone, including the suspects, scattered.
From a distance the barn venue where the party took place looks almost serene, but upon close inspection you can see the panic that set upon the crowd.
There were chairs and tables turned over from people trying to get out of harm’s way.
Partiers ran out of their shoes to escape.
“I’ve lived here 47 years and this is the first time something like this has happened,” said Otis Westmoreland who lives in the area.
Iredell County deputies say the incident happened around 2 a.m.
Two of the victims were just grazed by bullets and are already out of the hospital. A 20-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and is listed in serious condition. The last victim was hit in his lower extremities. His condition is unknown.
The victims ranged in age from 18-20.
Jan Fortune also lives next to the barn were the party happened. Officers with the Mooresville Police Department knocked on her door at 3:30 a.m.
“Told us for our protection, he just wanted to let us know be sure that our doors and windows are locked,” Fortune said. “Never heard those words. Very scared, very concerned.”
Deputies are still trying to determine what sparked the violence.
Fortune said she was surprised by it.
“It’s an event barn. They have very nice weddings, birthday parties, everything has been so positive,” she said. “I just feel for the owner and the people. They run very nice events.”
Investigators have not been able to make an arrest.
They want anyone who was at the party or who might have information about the shooting to give them a call.
