Gaston County sheriff standing firm on sticking with 287(g) program

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — The Gaston County Sheriff said he's standing firm on 287 (g) even after others across the state have decided to drop it.

Sheriff Alan Cloninger said he will continue to implement the controversial policy, which lets deputies share information with Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials when undocumented immigrants are booked into jail.

Last month, Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden ended 287(g).
