CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — Human remains discovered in Bennettsville in April have been positively identified as LaShaunda Spurlock, 43, of Chesterfield County, according to the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office.
Spurlock had been reported missing from Chesterfield County in 2024. Her family had spent nearly two years waiting for answers about her disappearance.

The Marlboro County Coroner’s Office confirmed her identity, allowing authorities to notify the community of the development.
The sheriff’s office said the identification brings an answer to one major question surrounding Spurlock’s disappearance, but acknowledged the news is heartbreaking for her family and loved ones.
Authorities say the investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death and disappearance remains a priority as the family seeks additional answers and justice.
