COLUMBIA, S.C. — Starting teacher pay could go up in South Carolina starting next year.
The state’s more than $15 billion budget was passed Wednesday by the Senate Finance Committee, the Rock Hill Herald reported.

The plan would raise starting pay to $50,500 a year. That’s up from $48,500.
The full state Senate is scheduled to have its budget debate next week.
