Johnson C. Smith students receive 800 free laptops to start the school year

CHARLOTTE — On Thursday, first-generation students at Johnson C. Smith received new laptops.

Eliminate the Digital Divide passed out at least 800 computers.

The nonprofit’s goal is to help students start the year with the technology they need to be successful.

A 2023 survey at the historically Black university showed close to 40% of students did not own a personal laptop.
