BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — Emergency crews recovered an individual from the water near Linville Dam on Saturday night after a large rescue response on Lake James.

Burke County 911 received a call around 6:30 p.m. reporting that someone had entered the water near the popular rock face west of the Duke Energy water intake.

The person had not resurfaced, prompting multiple agencies to launch a coordinated search.

Rescue teams located the individual just after 9 p.m. and removed them from the water. Officials say the family has been notified.

Agencies responding to the scene included Lake James Fire Department, Burke County EMS, Burke County Rescue, Burke County REACT, Hankins Fire Department, Nebo Fire Department, McDowell EMS, McDowell Rescue, Rutherford County Emergency Management, Burke County Communications, the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, and North Carolina Wildlife.
