LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — Lincoln Charter School officials were forced to shut down a building on its campus and relocate 150 students due to possible mold contamination.
Snow from a while back caused a leak in an internal drain and gutter system in a classroom, officials said. The classroom is in a building that houses second- and third- graders.
Kim Patterson’s daughter is in the third grade at the school.
School administrators found the leak in the classroom during the weekend of Jan. 20. Students in the affected classroom were moved last week, then all other students in the building were relocated Monday out of an abundance of caution.
An email was sent to parents Sunday to alert them about the possible mold contamination.
"It's a change but kids have (go through changes) all the time, so she didn't have much to say other than she has to go to the multi-purpose room now," Patterson said.
School officials said they have scheduled the building to be tested so they can guarantee the safety of the children.
Officials told parents they will keep better records.
The district held a meeting with parents Wednesday night.
"They respond to stuff like that quite often really good. They are very transparent with what's going on here," parent Bradley Holland said.
