CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Colorado-based Carbon Cycle Energy (C2e) says it has purchased land in Duplin County for its long-planned plant, designed to produce biogas from hog waste. Construction is slated to begin in March.

Duke Energy Corp. will buy all of the biogas produced at the facility, projected at 5,000 dekatherms a day, for use in several of its natural gas plants. The biogas will help Duke (NYSE: DUK) meet state renewable energy requirements that it produce a small percentage of its electricity from hog and chicken waste.

Thomas Mulholland, CEO for business development at C2e, says the plant is expected to be operational in April 2020.
This is not the first time C2e has announced imminent construction of the plant.
