CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police have identified the two people who died Tuesday morning when their vehicle hit a semi-truck on W.T. Harris Boulevard near Interstate 485.
The collision happened around 9:20 a.m. in the westbound lanes near the inner loop of I-485.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg investigators said the smaller vehicle was exiting I-485 when it ran a red light and went under the side of the truck, which had a green light.
The driver of the SUV has been identified as 36-year-old Anoulame J. Thayorath. The passenger was 29-year-old Amber Nicole Edwards.
The crash remains under investigation. Any person who witnessed the crash or has information about the case is asked to call Detective Oberer at (704) 432-2169 or Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600.
