CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating a crash that killed a man walking across a northwest Charlotte street late Saturday night.

The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. on Beatties Ford Road near St. Mark Street, south of LaSalle Street.

According to CMPD, speed and impairment were not factors for the driver but impairment is suspected for McCullough.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said a driver hit and killed 28-year-old Jamal McCullough on Beatties Ford Road. Officers said he was in a crosswalk, but this wasn’t at a stoplight.

It happened between intersections where you push a button before crossing and a caution light turns on. Officials said McCullough did not turn on that light before crossing the street.

This is an ongoing investigation. Check back with wsoctv.com for updates.
