MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Mooresville residents can once again wash their cars at home and use pressure washers under eased water conservation measures announced by the town.
Effective immediately, the town is lifting those restrictions under its enhanced Stage 2 water conservation measures. Bulk potable water sales have also resumed.
The changes come as the region moves away from peak water-use season and recent rainfall has helped improve key water supply indicators, including reservoir storage, streamflow and drought conditions.
Town officials said they will continue monitoring conditions and are hopeful Mooresville can move to a less restrictive drought stage in the coming months. For now, residents are encouraged to continue conserving water.

Despite the changes, several Stage 2 restrictions remain in effect for customers served by the town’s water system.
- Tuesdays from 6 p.m. until Wednesdays at 6 a.m.
- Saturdays from 6 p.m. until Sundays at 6 a.m.
The schedule applies to in-ground irrigation systems, hose-end sprinklers and automatic irrigation systems.
Other restrictions include operating decorative fountains or water features that do not support aquatic life, as well as filling, draining or refilling swimming pools. Limited pool top-offs are allowed for maintenance and liner protection.
Residents may continue using hand watering, drip irrigation and watering cans. Irrigation for newly installed landscaping during establishment periods is also permitted, as is irrigation supplied by private ponds.
Exceptions apply to private well systems, alternative water sources and water uses necessary for public health, safety, firefighting or critical infrastructure operations.
The town thanked residents for following conservation protocols and said continued cooperation will help meet water-use reduction goals while Stage 2 measures remain in place.
