CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Laymon Moore was shot and killed in March across the street from the Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Park.

Flowers and a cross serve as a memorial.

"I take it one day at a time, but I know he's resting with my mother and he's in a better place,” said Marilyn Moore, Laymon’s mother.

Marilyn said she's had a difficult time since the murder but has formed a special bond with Melissa Lewis, Laymon's girlfriend.

"I've been kind of down about the situation, but I know I have to be strong for her and Miss Marilyn,” Lewis said.

Lewis is pregnant with Laymon’s daughter.

"Every day I wake up and I feel her move,” Lewis said. “I just wish (Laymon) could be here to experience that. He took a very great person who wanted to be a father."

Police are still looking for the shooter.

Officers said Moore was walking down Catherine Simmons Avenue when some men pulled up in a car, and, after an argument, fired shots.

Moore's family is on a quest for justice.

The women want police to make an arrest and hope that someone in the community will step up and provide information that will make it possible.

"I know this child is a part of (Marilyn) too, and I just want us all to come together and be one like he's here,” Lewis said.
